A REPORT ON THE FEEDBACK MEETING ON FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS –KIGEZI REGIONAL HELD 23RD, FEBUARY 2015 AT KIRIGIME GUEST HOUSE.
Kick corruption out of Kigezi (KICK) is a Regional Anti-corruption Coalition working in the region that is Kabale, Kisoro, Kanungu and Rukungiri to empower Citizens to fight corruption. KICK envisions a Corruption free Society and works to raise awareness on anti-corruption and good governance, promotes citizens demand for accountability and promote human rights.
KICK in partnership with Uganda National NGO Forum Organized the Feedback Meeting for Kigezi Region. It was a one day meeting and its objectives were as follows.
- To give a broader understanding and standpoint of the free and fair elections campaign.
- To identify the importance of free and fair elections in Kigezi Region.
- To recognize the role citizens in exercising free and fair elections.
- To find out the development beyond free and fair elections.
- To find out the impact of corruption on the free and fair elections.
The meeting came to order at 10:40 Am, 40minutes past the programmed time9: ooam due to attitude of Ugandans on time. Coordinator KICK Byamugisha Kakuru Robert welcomed all members and gave a brief introduction on the categories of dignitaries. He introduced the chairman KICK (Kick Corruption out of Kigezi)-Fr Gaetano Batanyenda, citizen Ambassador- Bahati Kabahena, Hon. Gerald Karuhanga, Bishop Dr Zac Niyingire.
He introduced Mr. Alfred Niwamanya (UNNGOF), Mr. Chris Nkwasimbwe (UNNGOF), and Dorothy Kesiime (WACSOF), all partners of KICK, NGO Forum, and Net works of KICK in Kigezi, Rukungiri, Kisoro, Kanungu, and Kabale. The meeting pulled 500 participants with 390 males and 110 females constituting all active political party leaders-NRM,FDC,DP,UPC,UFA ,Religious Leaders-Catholic, Anglican, SDA, Muslims ,Business Community,professionals,political leaders-MPs,LCIII chairpersons, District councilors, Representatives from press and media,Youth councillors
Kick Corruption Out Of Kigezi (KICK) is a Regional coalition operating in Kigezi –South Western Uganda to Empower Citizens to fight corruption and its effects. KICK works to raise awareness on corruption and responsive Governance, Promote and Protect Human Rights, Promote citizen demand for accountability. KICK is a community Based Organization (CBO) registered with kabale District local Government and Uganda National NGO board.
To sensitize people on their Rights, entitlement and responsibilities with regard to public expenditure. To gather, share and analyze information on practices that lead to bad governance in public sector so as to map out strategies for action to fight corruption. To serve as a forum for anticorruption activists in the region in which they obtain mutual support and protection while undertaking their legitimate tasks and duties in lobbying Governance and advocating for action aimed at fighting corruption. To lobby for information and implementation of policies that aim at combating corruption at all levels.
Carry out baseline study. Map and characterize civil society groupings and networks involved in Human Rights and Good Governance. Conduct organizational capacity assessments. Identifying Marginalized groups. Establish platforms for Good Governance Activists. Sensitize communities to demand for better service delivery. Monitor and Evaluate local governance to promote public accountability.
